Where diecast racing meets the backcountry

Somewhere between a mountain logging camp and a riverbed canyon, there's a racetrack. It has no engines or fuel, and it doesn't need them. Gravity, a steep drop and two cars side by side do all the work.

This is Timber Creek Speedway.

Built for the Descent

Timber Creek is a two-lane downhill gravity track. It doesn't run on a flat oval. Instead it snakes back and forth down the mountainside: five long straightaways joined by four tight 180° hairpins, with the upper sections passing over the lower ones like old logging-road bridges.

Every hairpin is a smooth, banked two-lane turn, custom-built to carry speed through the corner rather than kill it. Cars dive into a switchback, swing around the bank and come out onto the next straight. Then they do it again, and again, all the way down to the valley floor.

The track keeps the two lanes separate from top to bottom. It's a true head-to-head race, and the only question is whose car gets to the bottom first.

Race-Day Tech

A real speedway needs a real start and finish.

The start gate counts down, paired with a control box with a glowing blue LCD screen. When the lights drop, the cars go.
The finish gate has its own digital readout for each lane, so there's no arguing about who won.

A Whole World Around the Track

What makes Timber Creek feel like a place instead of a toy is everything around the track.

The course runs through a rugged canyon carved from gray and white rock. A blue creek winds through the valley below. Both edges of the track are lined with river rock and gravel, and pine trees grow along the switchbacks. Stacked lumber and split logs are piled everywhere, a reminder that this is logging country.

Down in the canyon there's a campsite with blue canopy tents and a handful of off-road rigs parked in the dirt. It's the kind of place where the crew might camp out the night before a big race. A towering cliff wall rises along one side and closes in the whole scene.
